FREIGHT novella to launch in Melbourne | The Crime Factory

04/10/2014 By Cameron Ashley

On October 13th 2014, Crime Factory Publications will launch the third book in its Single Shot line of novellas, Freight by Ed Kurtz, at Loop Bar, 23 Meyers Place, Melbourne.

Kurtz’s body of work has won wide acclaim and been selected for such prestigious collections as The Best American Mystery Stories 2014. With Freight ($10), he has turned in arguably his best writing to date – a beautifully lyrical slice of old school Country Noir that effortlessly captures Texas in the 1970s and puts  a distinctly different spin on the conventions of the ‘heist-gone-wrong.’

From his home in Austin, Texas, Kurtz has prepared a reading from the novella that will be screened on the night.  Copies will be available for purchase.

In addition to Freight, CFP celebrates the release of the 16th issue of the Crime Factory magazine and also the success of its special edition, Pink Factory ($10). Hard copies of the popular Erotica magazine will be on sale for the first time locally. Melbourne author Louis Bravos will be reading from his Pink Factory story, ‘He,’ a decidedly different serving of smut set in modern day Japan.

Also on tap for the night are the reveals of Crime Factory Publications first major 2015 projects – CFP’s first original full-length novel, Lupo Danish Never Has Nightmares by San Diego’s Jimmy Callaway and Melbourne author Kat Clay’s Double Exposure, the fourth entrant into the Single Shot line. Kat Clay will be on hand to discuss her unique blending of the Noir with the Weird and CFP are proud to showcase this new local author.

The entire CFP library will be for sale on the night, including all anthologies and the previous novellas, Saint Homicide by Jake Hinkson and the few remaining first editions of Fierce Bitches by Jedidiah Ayres.

Entry is free and drinks are at bar prices.

Doors open at 8pm with readings to commence shortly thereafter.
